About Me

I've been working on the web since 2000, across just about every discipline — design, development, strategy, content, and accessibility. These days my focus is on leading Electric Citizen, the agency I co-founded in 2012, and on writing and speaking about the work.

I live in Minneapolis, MN, and have worked with dozens of clients in the Twin Cities and across the country.

Where I Work

I'm the CEO and Creative Director at Electric Citizen, a web agency focused on designing and building websites for clients in the civic sector — government agencies, universities, and nonprofits.

We're a small, senior team with over 13 years of complex projects behind us.

Before Electric Citizen, I spent 12 years as a solo designer and developer under the name Dan Moriarty Design. And before that, I worked as a graphic designer and writer.

What I Do

At Electric Citizen, I lead our creative and strategy work — from content strategy and UX to information architecture — while managing the agency day-to-day.

I've worked with clients including the University of Minnesota, State of Minnesota, City of Santa Barbara, Graywolf Press, Wilder Foundation, and Minneapolis College, among many others.

I write regularly about web design, accessibility, and digital strategy, and I've presented at conferences including DrupalCon, DrupalGovCon, and regional events on topics ranging from layout and design to accessibility standards and the evolving role of AI in web work.

If you're interested in having me speak at your event, contact me.

Other Involvements

I've been part of the Twin Cities Drupal community for years — organizing local conferences and workshops, mentoring newcomers, and occasionally designing the t-shirts and stickers.

It's a good group, and staying connected to the open-source community keeps the work grounded.
